Kateřina Kučmášová Resslová is a coordinator for trademarks and licences at Škoda Auto in the Czech Republic.
According to her peers, she is known for her ability to find effective and innovative ways of managing an increasing and complex workload with limited resources.
The intellectual property department she works in focuses on all matters, including patents, designs, utility models, copyright, trademarks, licensing, and domain names. Having joined Škoda as a lawyer in 2014, Kučmášová Resslová is currently an expert coordinator responsible for trademarks and licences.
Her work encompasses managing the company’s IP portfolio and trademark licences, and evaluating risks with the support of external lawyers, the head of the IP department, and other colleagues.
She tells Managing IP her greatest achievement and the most interesting project she has worked on to date was the acquisition of Škoda trademarks (the word mark ‘Škoda’ and a logo depicting a winged arrow).
Previously, the Škoda marks were owned and managed by multiple different entities.
“The communication and cooperation between the owners were very difficult and the tension between the owners escalated,” she says. “Škoda Auto successfully consolidated the situation and the ownership of the trademarks.”
Kučmášová Resslová also supported marketing colleagues with the carmaker’s logo update and rebranding in 2022.
“As this change was one of the most visible and courageous since the Škoda brand logo has existed, I am very proud to have been there,” she says.
