It isn’t always easy for law students to know what area they should specialise in.
But for Laís Araujo, legal counsel at meat processing company JBS in São Paulo, it became clear early on after she gained experience as an intern at a law firm.
“I started to work with IP without really knowing what this area was about, but once I started, I fell in love with it. It was fate.”
Today she’s a trademark specialist, working at one of Brazil’s biggest meat processors.
“I work with patents, industrial designs, and copyright as well, but in a smaller volume.
“I really like practising law in-house because the work is dynamic and my colleagues – mostly the marketing department – make me think a lot about how to draw up strategies aligned with the company's commercial interests,” Araujo says.
