After completing his PhD at Imperial College London in 2011, Kaushal Choonee established a successful career as an engineer, including a three-year spell as a senior research scientist at the National Physical Laboratory.
He made the move into law in April 2021 and worked as an associate at the firm Marks & Clerk for just over a year before joining Elekta, a Swedish-owned radiotherapy equipment manufacturer, where he has already made a strong impression.
His nominator tells us that Choonee has been “instrumental” in shaking up the firm’s patent management processes, leading to “greater, much-needed efficiency for our small intellectual property team”.
With his background in academia, he was quick to spot the risks of accidental disclosures of some critical improvements to Elekta’s cancer treatment workflows.
With a request for FDA approval looming, Choonee “rallied the engineers” and worked with outside counsel to file vital patent applications that secured protection for the innovation.
“Kaushal continues to impress with his technical expertise, both in IP and the ever-changing landscape of oncology software,” his nominator continues.
“He is proactive and meticulous in his support of the business and has become a much-valued member of the Elekta IP team.”
