Teemu Pitkänen, senior legal counsel at Teosto in Finland, was picked for his proven record of successfully negotiating complex copyright licensing deals with some of the biggest multinational entertainment and technology companies.
Pitkänen joined the Finnish composers’ copyright society Teosto in 2018 and has comprehensive knowledge of copyright and other legal issues related to digital media and the music industry.
According to his nominator, Pitkänen is a trusted adviser, a skilled negotiator, and a well-liked colleague.
His responsibilities at Teosto include providing legal advice on music copyright licensing, outsourcing, and governance of collective management organisations.
Before joining Teosto, Pitkänen worked with the Finnish anti-piracy association Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Centre, where his duties included copyright enforcement, takedown actions, and litigation.
He has also worked at a data protection company and several Helsinki-based law firms.
Pitkänen tells Managing IP that he feels privileged to stand at the forefront of the global field of copyright collective management and learn new aspects of copyright law every day.
“Professionally, combining law and music is a winning tune for me,” he adds.
Pitkänen is also a member of the Finnish government's Copyright Council.
