Sarah Brough rose to the position of trademark attorney within Caterpillar, after joining the company as a paralegal 10 years ago, owing to sheer determination.
She makes it to this year’s list because of her excellence in protecting and enforcing Caterpillar’s brands and sub-brands in tricky jurisdictions, including Latin America, India and Africa.
Her nominator considers Brough a trusted adviser and commends her for her autonomous handling of several subsidiary Caterpillar brands, including Progress Rail and MaK.
“She really deserves recognition because of her work and progression, and her dedication to the profession,” her nominator tells Managing IP.
According to the nominator, Brough is a key team player, has a real thirst for learning, and works hard to keep up with her legal knowledge.
“She not only gets great results on the go but is also a really good person. She stands out,” they add.
After qualifying as a trademark attorney, Brough helped mentor Caterpillar's next generation of paralegals.
She is also mindful of diversity and inclusion and has helped Caterpillar consciously take on board several paralegals from diverse backgrounds.
Brough tells Managing IP that she takes great pride in helping protect the valuable trademark portfolio of a world-famous and global brand.
“Every day presents a different opportunity to deliver commercially focused support to global clients, and the varied nature of work is one of the most interesting and rewarding parts of my role.”
