At Amazon, one of the largest and most recognisable brand names in the world, it’s hardly a surprise that there is plenty to be getting on with.
Our next nomination, Jake Holt, who is corporate counsel for trademarks at the business, certainly demonstrates this point.
Holt initially provided support to several different business units on the retail side but recently transitioned to working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) – a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments.
“I’ve been particularly impressed by his ability to juggle both Amazon’s and AWS’s portfolios during the transition when we were short-handed,” says Holt’s nominator.
Holt is also one of the points of contact for tax advice in the trademarks team. His nominator tells us he is leading a complex, worldwide project in which Amazon is consolidating all its trademark holdings into one business entity.
Meanwhile, we are told Holt has been a helpful informal mentor for several new hires and has assisted with training.
He is an active member of Amazon’s diversity, equality, and inclusion programme and was one of the company’s representatives at the INTA Annual Meeting 2022 in Washington DC.
Holt tells Managing IP that he thrives off providing trademark services for AWS: “It is a robust and innovative business that keeps us on our toes, requiring practical legal advice and creative problem solving.”
He adds: “I take pride in providing great customer service to my clients with thoughtful management of clearance, prosecution, and enforcement of our global trademark portfolios, as well as other copyright and IP counselling.”
