If you were going to launch a new telecoms patent pool, securing the backing of prominent standard essential patent owners such as Huawei and Philips would probably be high on the to-do list.
Mattia Fogliacco, president of Sisvel International, can call 2022 a successful year then.
The IP management group launched a Wi-Fi 6 patent pool earlier this year. It made a splash by naming Huawei, Mediatek, Philips, SK Telecom, and Wilus as founding members.
Along with the Wi-Fi 6 pool, Sisvel, under Fogliacco’s leadership, debuted a new structured payment plan — the Licensing Incentive Framework for Technologies (LIFT).
In November, the company launched a cellular IoT patent pool. Fogliacco pointed out at the time that while the IoT market had been in development for some years, only then were there signs of widespread rollout.
Clearly, he is getting ahead of the game in what promises to be a fascinating sector.
Fogliacco has promised that the pool will remove a lot of questions and concerns by giving easy, transparent and reasonable access to patents.
