Avanci absolutely crushed the market this year, likely thanks to its leader Kasim Alfalahi.
To put it plainly, you can’t talk about 4G patent licensing or automotive without talking about Avanci anymore.
The company revealed this September that it had expanded 4G licensing to more than 80 automotive brands – recent additions included Toyota, Nissan, Stellantis and Honda.
It snagged LG Electronics, one of the biggest 4G standard essential patent owners, as a licensor this year too.
Two months before, unsurprisingly, the company announced that it intended to raise its prices from $15 per vehicle to $20 as of September 1.
It’s easy to see why it felt it could make that move. Under Alfalahi’s leadership, the patent licensing platform has successfully fought back against its detractors.
It emerged victorious in its antitrust dispute with Continental when the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit threw out the automotive supplier’s case on the basis that it failed to state Section 1 or Section 2 Sherman Act claims.
Avanci has announced plans to expand into 5G licensing. The industry will watch with bated breath to see if the licensing company does as well in that space as it has in 4G.
