This next entrant may be a familiar face. But we can’t ignore the fact that Nokia has been in the news again for its standard essential patent litigation.
At the heart of that is Clemens Heusch, Nokia’s global head of dispute resolution.
Nokia secured two big wins in August when Chinese smart phone maker Oppo and its subsidiary OnePlus were ordered to withdraw their devices from the German market.
The Munich Regional Court sided with Nokia and granted it an injunction, prompting Oppo to pull its phones and smart watches from its German online store.
Oppo infringed two Nokia SEPs and didn’t act as a willing licensee during negotiations for fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) royalty terms, the court ruled.
Nokia’s Munich win, masterminded by Heusch, marked a hattrick for the Finnish telecoms company. It had two other successful actions against the same opponent at the Mannheim Regional Court in June and July.
Nokia and Oppo have outstanding litigation in Düsseldorf over the Chinese smartphone maker’s alleged infringement of two other feature patents.
