The meeting started with the work of Hathaway Russell for the Committee being highlighted. She has served as Committee Chair between 2013 and this year’s meeting, after serving as Committee Vice Chair between 2011 and 2013 and Networking Event Chair between 2009 and 2011. Russell yesterday picked up an award for Project of the Year on behalf of the Committee, for organizing the 2015 Women in IP Global Networking Dinners. Co-Chairs on the project were Carol Thorstad-Forsyth and Yelena Morozova.
Christine Genge of Smart & Biggar then shared some statistics from a gender study of AIPLA Meetings. The good news is that after a dip in 2013, the percentage of women speakers and moderators on plenary/concurrent sessions at AIPLA Annual Meetings is more than 30%.
A panel of Judges Laurie Michelson, Joy Flowers Conti, Kimberly Moore and Lorelei Ritchie then gave reflections and advice on the legal profession including how to conduct yourself before a court.
