US firm Howrey has hired former Elzaburu partner Laura Alonso as an IP partner in its Madrid office.

Alonso will lead Howrey Madrid's IP prosecution team. She is the second IP partner to join the firm in Spain. In February the firm hired Luis Fernández-Novoa, as well as three associates, from Gomez-Acebo & Pombo in Madrid to launch its IP practice in the country.
Alonso advises companies on Spanish and Community trade mark and design matters as well as licensing, unfair competition and domain names issues.
Last week Howrey was named winner of the US firm of the year in Europe by Managing IP at an awards ceremony in London .
